TOPEKA, Kan. - September 1, 2004 - The Kansas Highway Patrol's newest online feature is designed to save time and effort for dispatchers, reporters, and the public. Earlier this month, the Kansas Highway Patrol launched its online crash log service through the state's official Web site at www.accessKansas.org.

The Web service is updated immediately by dispatchers as information is received from troopers at crash scenes. The online crash log system was designed to free up phone lines and allow dispatchers to focus on emergency calls. Reporters and the public will also benefit by being able to view and print most injury and all fatal crash information on a real-time basis. Crash information is updated 24 hours a day and seven days a week and can be searched by county, date, or type of crash.

"The Kansas Highway Patrol works hard to quickly and accurately disseminate information regarding serious traffic crashes worked by agency personnel," said Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol. "Thanks to the dedication and expertise of accessKansas, we will now be able to serve citizens and our media partners more efficiently through the online crash logs Web site."

Online crash logs are only generated for accidents handled by the Kansas Highway Patrol. Crashes occurring on the Kansas Turnpike or processed by local law enforcement agencies will not be included on the site and will be available for 10 days following the date they were posted or last updated.
