OKLAHOMA CITY – September 14, 2004 – The state of Oklahoma has signed a new long-term agreement with eGovernment firm NIC (Nasdaq: EGOV) to manage its official government portal at www.YourOklahoma.com. The base agreement and renewal options for the new contract run through June 30, 2009.
NIC built and has managed the state's eGovernment Web site since June 2001. The Oklahoma Office of State Finance, which provides oversight for the state's online services, finalized the amended contract on August 19, 2004.
Oklahoma is one of 16 states to offer online government services at no upfront cost to taxpayers through NIC's self-funded solution. YourOklahoma currently provides eGovernment services to more than 30 state agencies and manages approximately 24,000 pages of online content. In 2003, the portal processed more than 1.2 million transactions electronically.
"Oklahoma has one of the most robust Web sites in the nation, and we continue to launch new services that benefit our citizens and businesses," said Scott Meacham, Director of the Oklahoma Office of State Finance. "I am confident that our state and NIC will continue to effectively serve Oklahoma's constituents under this new contract."
YourOklahoma currently offers 55 interactive government services for businesses and citizens, including applications that support professional license renewals for several agencies, the award-winning Web-in-a-Box service that allows agencies to build a Web presence at minimal cost, and one of the nation's leading homeland security notification systems. The state portal also launched an application in July 2003 that processes and archives state-issued checks on behalf of the Oklahoma State Treasurer's Office. The system is currently saving $600,000 per year by reducing equipment, storage, and data retrieval costs.
"The state of Oklahoma and NIC have a proven track record of using eGovernment to deliver results," said Jeff Fraser, Chief Executive Officer of NIC. "We thank Oklahoma for its vote of confidence and look forward to enhancing the state's online government portal during the next five years."
