LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – December 7, 2004 – A new service offered by the state of Arkansas is allowing faster processing of child support payments. Child support in Arkansas can now be paid online through the state's official Web site at www.Arkansas.gov. The new service accepts direct payments and payroll deductions 24 hours a day and seven days week.
The Office of Child Support Enforcement, a division of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, teamed with the Information Network of Arkansas to make it possible for non-custodial parents and employers to make child support payments with a credit card or electronic check. The services are available for all Arkansas-based child support cases facilitated by the Office of Child Support Enforcement, and funds received electronically are transferred immediately to the appropriate recipients.
More than 162,000 child support payments are submitted each month in Arkansas by mail or in-person.
"This new service should help ensure all children get the support they deserve from both parents," said Governor Mike Huckabee. "We are providing Arkansas parents with a much more convenient means of meeting their obligations to their children."
With the new service, non-custodial parents can easily make Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card payments through Arkansas.gov's secure payment server. Using a unique password, customers can log into their accounts to make payments with credit cards and electronic checks. The service also allows custodial parents to instantly access the status of recent child support payment disbursements via the Internet.
"We are very pleased to offer online child support services to our citizens and businesses, "said Richard Weiss, Director of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. "The ability to pay with a credit card, any time of the day or night, is a tremendous benefit to everyone."
