OKLAHOMA CITY – December 8, 2004 – More than 8,000 physicians licensed in Oklahoma have a new way to renew their licenses and update their personal information with the state. The new Web site is the result of a partnership between the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure & Supervision and OK.gov, the state's official Web site.
In addition to renewing a medical license, any physician licensed in Oklahoma can now update practice information and office hours online at www.ok.gov. This information is made available in a searchable public database for citizens. Physicians also can renew their licenses 60 days before expiration or apply for reinstatement for lapsed licenses, and temporary permit cards can be printed for use until renewal cards are sent in the mail.
"It is important to continually identify areas of improvement," said Lyle Kelsey, Oklahoma Medical Board executive director. "We evaluated suggestions about our previous license renewal service and applied many of these to improve the usability and design process of the new site."
To date, OK.gov has developed licensing systems for nine professions, including accountants, nurses, law enforcement officers, architects and landscape architects, professional engineers and land surveyors, and speech pathologists and audiologists. The portal is currently working on a number of services to accommodate a multitude of other state agencies.
"Our partners play an integral role in effective Web development," said Mark Mitchell, OK.gov director of marketing and portal operations. "The Medical Board continues to take a proactive approach to their online services, and they constantly look to their customer base to identify new services that automate paper -intensive processes."
