SALT LAKE CITY – April 10, 2006 -- Individuals who have not yet filed their state tax returns can still do online with TaxExpress, a free service available through the state's official Web site at www.Utah.gov. The Web-based service has no filing fees and is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
TaxExpress simplifies the state filing process for those with the simplest tax situation, which covers approximately half of the state's population. It is among the easiest and quickest ways for individuals to file state income tax returns. TaxExpress is available to Utahns who meet the following requirements:
By using information from a completed federal tax return, a TaxExpress online filing can normally be completed in approximately 30 minutes. Even better, refunds are generally processed faster than other filing methods and arrive in days rather than weeks. For added convenience, filers have the option to receive income tax refund deposits directly into checking, savings, or credit union accounts.
TaxExpress is also available for those who owe income taxes. Payments can be made online by using MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or electronic check through Utah.gov's secure payment system or can be mailed with the coupon included in the 2005 TaxExpress booklet.
The deadline for filing state income tax returns is April 17, 2006.
