HELENA, Mont. – May 18, 2006 – The state of Montana has extended the contract for Montana Interactive to manage its eGovernment services for another five years. Montana Interactive is a wholly owned subsidiary of eGovernment firm NIC (Nasdaq: EGOV) and signed its original contract with the state on January 2, 2001.
The five-year contract extension runs through December 31, 2010 and was approved by Montana Acting Chief Information Officer Jeff Brandt.
Since launching its first services in cooperation with Montana Interactive in January 2001, the state has been recognized with six national eGovernment service awards, including four Best of the Web honors from the Center for Digital Government. Working in partnership with Montana Interactive and NIC, the state has introduced several government technology firsts, including the first convicted offender search application and the ability for voters to be verified through an online service that allows them to cast their votes without physically bringing their identification to the polls as required by the Help America Vote Act.
The state's official Web site (www.mt.gov) has launched more than 70 online government services during the last five years, including hunting and fishing licenses, business annual report filings, unemployment insurance claims, and vehicle temporary registration permits. In 2005, more than 1.4 million unique visitors accessed eGovernment services and processed approximately 1.8 million online transactions with the state.
"We value our long-term partnership with the state of Montana and appreciate this vote of confidence," said Harry Herington, President of NIC. "We look forward to another five years of working in collaboration with the state to deliver eGovernment services that make life easier for Montana's citizens and businesses."
