State of Utah Debuts Major Release of Improved Utah.gov Web site

Revamped Utah.gov site allows easy access to over 800 online government services

SALT LAKE CITY – June 7, 2007 – The state of Utah recently unveiled a new version of the State’s official Web site, www.Utah.gov, which includes improvements to citizens’ access to nearly 800 online services. Utah.gov receives the most visitors, per capita, of any government Web site in the U.S. Nearly 1.7 million visitors a month are attracted to Utah.gov due to the plethora of state, federal and local government services available on the site. New search features on Utah.gov take the complexity out of bureaucracy and allow citizens to locate services and information quickly and easily regardless of the agency or jurisdiction.

In addition to a myriad of online services, Utah.gov also sports a new look. Unveiled last week, the new appearance of Utah.gov incorporates Utah’s iconic and inspiring geography with cutting-edge technology that instantly directs users to the information they need. For example, users looking for the address of a state agency can use the new agency search. After typing in the agency’s name in the agency search box, a map appears and provides the user with the agency’s contact information. In addition, Utah analyzed what citizens do on Utah.gov and the top ten items that citizens search most frequently are featured on the front page. The new Utah.gov site also utilizes innovative techniques to fit more information on the home page with less clutter, including accordion navigation and scrolling features.

“The new Utah.gov makes interacting with government easier and more efficient,” said Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. “Citizens, as well as businesses, benefit from the improved, service-oriented Utah.gov.”

Other new features include Utah Govcast, a multimedia Web site. Utah Govcast links users to a variety of government-related media, including video from the Governor’s economic summit, the Division of Wildlife Resources’ weekly radio show, legislative audio and video feeds, Arts Council podcasts, and more.

“The diversity of resources found on the new Utah.gov is staggering,” stated Utah State Chief Information Officer J. Stephen Fletcher. “And, per capita, Utah’s Web site has the most reach of any state. A higher percentage of Utah’s population goes online to access government information and services than in other states. I believe that it’s the 800 online services that attract so many Utah citizens to Utah.gov.”
