LINCOLN, Neb. – March 19, 2008 – Reinstating a driver license just got easier, thanks to a new service now available through Nebraska’s official Web site at http://www.Nebraska.gov.
Individuals whose driver licenses have been suspended or revoked can now go online and submit the information required to reinstate their driving privileges. The site also processes Visa and MasterCard payments through Nebraska.gov’s secure payment processor.
“Reinstatement of driver licenses used to only be available in Lincoln,” said Beverly Neth, Director of the Nebraska DMV. “Rather than add new staff to provide this service across the state, we chose to turn to technology to help us. We worked with the state’s portal provider, Nebraska.gov, to develop and implement our electronic driver license reinstatement service.”
Approximately 60,000 driver licenses are suspended and revoked each year in Nebraska. Revocations and suspensions occur for a variety of reasons, including failure to appear in court, driving without motor vehicle insurance, and driving under the influence. Nearly 50,000 drivers reinstate their driving privileges each year in Nebraska.
“We are dedicated to expanding our online capabilities to further support Nebraska’s eGovernment goals,” said Brent Hoffman, General Manager of Nebraska.gov. “We are working closely with the DMV and other state agencies to develop several other online services that will launch throughout the year.”
“Our goal is to make it easier for people to find out what they need to do to reinstate so that they may be more inclined to take action as soon as possible”, said Kathy Hraban, Nebraska DMV Financial Responsibility Program Manger. “We want to make sure that everyone driving on our roadways has a valid driver license.”
