Idaho Launches Driver’s License Reinstatement Service at http://www.idaho.gov

New Service Provides Convenient, One-Click Access to Citizens and Reduced Call Volume for State

BOISE, Idaho – April 1, 2008 – Gem State motorists with a suspended or revoked driver’s license can now check their license status and pay reinstatement fees online. Previously, drivers could check their status only by calling or visiting the Idaho Transportation Department headquarters in Boise. Fee payments could only be made by mail or in person. Between 70,000 and 85,000 driver’s licenses are suspended and/or revoked each year in Idaho. Of those, about 45,000 reinstate their privileges.

Accessible from Idaho’s official Web site at http://www.idaho.gov, the Idaho Transportation Department hopes the service significantly cuts the more than 70 phone calls it receives each day from drivers anxiously checking their license status after they have completed reinstatement requirements.

Businesses such as insurance companies and motor carriers can also set up a username and password to pay reinstatement fees on behalf of multiple drivers.

Users are required to enter their name, birth date, and Idaho driver’s license number or Social Security number to view their license status. If applicable, instructions for reinstating driving privileges will also be displayed. Once any suspension time has elapsed and reinstatement fees have been paid, additional actions may need to be taken to reinstate driving privileges.

Online payments may be made through the Idaho.gov’s secure payment system using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover.

Idaho is one of the first states in the nation to offer this service online.

For questions about reinstatement requirements or change of address, call the Idaho Transportation Department’s drivers’ services division at 208-334-8735.
