LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – October 2, 2008 – Paying personal property and real estate taxes is easier than ever, thanks to an online service available to residents of 26 Arkansas counties. Working in conjunction with county tax collectors, the official state Web site (http://www.Arkansas.gov) offers citizens the ability to pay personal property and real estate tax payments online.
Counties offering secure online Web payments with a credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover) or electronic check are: Carroll, Clark, Cleburne, Columbia, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Dallas, Faulkner, Grant, Howard, Independence, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lawrence, Little River, Ouachita, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Sebastian, Van Buren, Washington, and White Counties. In addition to online payments, Carroll, Columbia, Craighead, Crittenden, Independence, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Little River, Ouachita, Pope, Saline, Sebastian, Van Buren, and White counties now accept credit card payments in their county office. Many of these counties also offer a payment option through an automated phone system. The online payments will be accepted until 12:00 midnight on October 10.
“My desire is to maintain an efficient government office that offers convenient payment options consistent with the private sector,” said Saline County Tax Collector Chris Villines. “Offering payment methods online, by phone, and in the office helps us accomplish this goal while collecting tax dollars that ultimately support our schools and other county services.”
Last year, approximately $14 million was processed through the state’s online tax portal. The system is maintained on a secure server and uses the latest encryption technology to ensure privacy, security, and data integrity.
To use the online payment services, taxpayers may enter the parcel number provided on their tax statements or can search the database for specific parcels. The property tax system guides the user through a series of entry screens and provides a confirmation and printable receipt page for recordkeeping.
