HONOLULU – November 10, 2008 – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) launched its new online Commercial Marine Licensing System (CMLS) through the state’s official web site (http://www.ehawaii.gov).
This new system allows fishers who catch and land marine life in the state for commercial purposes, and businesses that commercialize regulated marine life (minimum size, closed season, female crustaceans, bag limit) in the state be able to obtain new licenses, or renew their licenses online. Fishers who harvest live marine life for aquarium activities (commercial or recreational) can also obtain permits online. The license fee is $50 for all license types, except for a non-resident Commercial Marine License applicant, which is $200. There is no fee for aquarium permits and the Aquaculture Dealer License. Commercial fishers who are not in compliance with the monthly fishing report requirement will not be able to renew any commercial fisheries license type. Also, all fishers may use the online service to submit an application to register fishing vessels for bottom fishing in the main Hawaiian Islands.
“We are pleased to have successfully developed this online licensing system that will make it easier for commercial fishers to obtain or renew their license online,” said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairperson. “This new online system is part of the state’s continuing effort to provide more services on line in order to make it easier for the public to conduct business with the state, as well as to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.”
The online system was developed in partnership with eHawaii.gov as the contract vendor and developer for the web portal service.
For additional information about online licensing, contact the Division of Aquatic Resources in Honolulu at (808) 587-0103.
