Utah Leads the Nation in eGovernment Innovation

http://www.Utah.gov Recognized with 16 Awards since 2007

Salt Lake City, Utah – February 20, 2009 – Over the past two years, http://www.Utah.gov has been honored with an unprecedented sixteen awards, recognizing innovation in government technology.

In 2007, the Web site was awarded first place in the prestigious Best of the Web competition, and in 2008 it was ranked first in the Digital States Survey, both awarded by the Center for the Digital Government. In 2007 and 2008, the GovMark Council awarded the State Construction Registry on Utah.gov with the “Best Overall Marketing Program” as well as the “Best State and Local Marketing Program.”

The State’s official Web site, http://www.utah.gov, provides citizens and businesses access to nearly 800 online services. Last year, 49,053 of Utah citizens renewed their driver’s license online and 776,894 renewed their vehicles online. The Web site enhances and streamlines the way citizens and businesses interact with government.

"Utah's site is one of the most robust and citizen-friendly sites in the nation. Not only is it packed full of services for both businesses and citizens, it is also beautifully designed and highly functional," said Cathilea Robinett, executive director of the Center for Digital Government.

Utah.gov receives the most visitors, per capita, of any government Web site in the U.S. More than one million visitors come each month to Utah.gov due to an array of state, federal, and local government services available on the site.

Last year, the site received over 12 million visits, securely processed 9.6 million online transactions, and launched 37 new services including the new the Public Meeting Notice site, which allows visitors to easily search and locate public meetings scheduled by government organizations throughout Utah.

The goal of Utah.gov is to provide easy access to government information, create new online services, and increase the use of existing services. This past August, Utah became the first state to mandate a four-day workweek for state employees, closing all state offices on Friday’s. But the state remains open for business through Utah.gov where services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“Utah.gov makes state information and services more accessible than ever, for citizens, businesses, and visitors,” said Governor Jon Huntsman. “We live in a technology rich state where citizens demand innovation and improvement. This recognition shows our commitment to providing award-winning, cutting-edge resources to businesses and citizens alike.”
