Lone Peak Conservation Center Launches a New Web site at http://www.lonepeak.utah.gov

New Site Follows Six Firefighter Crews Who Risk their Lives Fighting Wildfires

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – March 9, 2009 – Utah’s Lone Peak Conservation Center has unveiled a new dynamic Web site, http://www.LonePeak.Utah.Gov, which follows six firefighter crews and their battles with wildfires.

The site gives the public an in-depth look at six Utah firefighting crews comprised of highly trained men and women who risk their lives fighting wildfires. Visitors can get a more detailed look at the people who choose this profession while allowing real-life firefighters to describe the daily trials and triumphs of their work.

“We are very excited to have this new site. We expect site visitors to learn what the State of Utah has to offer in this exciting field,” said Glenn Beagle, Lone Peak Conservation Center Program Manager. “We have been aggressively using new technologies to reflect our commitment to the vision and mission of the Lone Peak Conservation Center. Our main focus is providing information to attract new fire management specialists to our organization.”

Each crew can easily update the site from various field locations. They will provide their own perspectives about fire behavior, significant events, photographs, injuries, and weather.

“Our fire fighters are away from home most of the summer months. We wanted our Web site to communicate crew activities throughout the summer for friends and family to stay current on the crew’s whereabouts,” said Beagle.

“Firefighters are often called to fires for weeks, if not months at a time. This technology allows family and friends to track fire crew locations and conditions letting them know the status of loved ones,” commented Beagle.

Lone Peak Conservation Center, a fire management program with Utah’s Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands developed the new site with the team that designs and supports the award-winning state Web portal, http://www.Utah.gov.
