Accountability and Transparency with Utah Government Finances at Transparent.Utah.gov

Budget spending, financial reports, financial audits, and more can be found at http://transparent.utah.gov

Salt Lake City, Utah – May 18, 2009 – A one-stop source for accessing Utah government’s financial records launched today – http://transparent.utah.gov is a free resource for the public. As the State’s official Public Finance Web site, it allows open access into Utah’s financial records. The Utah Legislature required the creation of this free public website in an effort to increase the transparency of government.

“Government transparency has become a reality in Utah,” said Lt. Governor Gary R. Herbert. “This site allows everyone to see where and how their tax dollars are being spent. This commitment to openness and transparency will strengthen our state management.”

With the passing of transparency legislation in 2008, the State of Utah mandated a standard of accountability and transparency that fosters trust in state government and makes public financial information available on the Internet. The Department of Administrative Services, Division of Finance, under the direction of the Transparency Advisory Board manages the web site.

Through the Web site http://transparent.utah.gov, the public has a free tool that will allow them to view, understand, and track where tax dollars come from and how they are spent. This one-stop, easy to use resource provides meaningful information about how the state government utilizes public funds and where those funds come from.

The Web site is organized with a simple, yet flexible user interface, making the State’s financial records easy to understand. Utah’s financial information can be arranged by organizations, by vendors, by funds, by categories, or any combination of all four.

The state of Utah is proud to offer this valuable service to the public as part of the many award-winning services that can be found online at Utah.gov.
